Thank you for entering our 5th Annual “Flyball Run for Rescue” tournament being held at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Belleville, Michigan. Fairgrounds open Friday at 8 AM and the tournament building will be open at 4PM. Head Judge is Brian Kauk with Annette Tindall relief judging. Attached and below are the Welcome Letter and Seeding and Racing Schedule for the weekend for distribution to your team members. Without your entries and the cash sponsorships of Miller's Bar in Dearborn and Henry Ford Community College, we would not be able to reach our goal and donate over $12,000 with this series of annual tournaments to dog rescues and public education. We also want to thank Bissell (who has one of my previous "unadoptable" fosters as a cover child for their pet products) and Pet Supplies Plus of Ann Arbor for their generous donation of products and supplies. Zuke’s and Waggers also donated samples of their products. AWARDS: For teams that place in their division, we will be giving a donation to the rescue of their choice that is a legal nonprofit either 501c3 or State nonprofit corporation. 1st Place will be $100 donation; 2nd Place will be $75 donation; 3rd Place will be a $50 donation. If a team does not designate a rescue, the placement donation will go to a local rescue of JYD’s choice. We hope you will be able to join in the recognition of tournament placements and our special awards AT THE CONCLUSION OF RACING Sunday. PLEASE HAVE YOUR DESIGNATED LEGITIMATE DOG RESCUE’S NAME, ALONG WITH THEIR MAILING ADDRESS, AND WHAT TEAM IS RACING FOR THEM TO DEB NO LATER THAN THE END OF THE RACING DAY SATURDAY. IF NOT RECEIVED BY THE END OF RACING ON SATURDAY, SHOULD YOUR TEAM PLACE, JYD WILL DESIGNATE A RESCUE FOR YOU. WORKERS RAFFLE FOR CASH: Our motto is "no empty chairs" - but only with your help! Because we're a small team and are racing in our own tournament, any help your team mates can provide by line and/or box judging will be appreciated, so much so that we will be having a separate Workers' Raffle for $50 cash at the end of the tourney on Sunday and you need not be present to win (just make sure you write your name and club on the ticket). You will receive a ticket for each race judged and see Kate or Deb for your tickets after judging. SATURDAY POST-RACING POTLUCK: Immediately following racing on Saturday, we will have a potluck dinner. Please bring your smiling face and favorite dish to share. Miller’s Bar is providing the hamburgers, hot dogs and buns with Chef Frank grilling with Junkyard Dogs providing condiments and plates/utensils. BTW, if you help with setup and/or cleanup, you get a Worker's Raffle ticket for that too! RAFFLE: Plan to participate in our great raffle. Prices will be posted. Tickets will be sold 9 am to end of racing on Saturday and 9 am to 1:15 pm Sunday. Please make sure to purchase your tickets and place them in the containers prior to 1:00 pm Sunday. Drawing will be 1:30 pm Sunday and results will be posted at the conclusion of the drawing. Border Collie DNA Collection: We have received approx. a hundred DNA collection kits for the new Border Collie Study being done by the TGen Research Institute. This study is collecting data on all BCs but is more specifically looking at those with a history of deafness, epilepsy, early take-off syndrome, and noise phobia for research purposes. For those of you who want to participate with your dog, please see Deb for a sample kit and consent form. If we can get these all collected over the weekend, we will mail in for you. DIRECTIONS: The fairgrounds are located at 10871 Quirk Road in Belleville, right off the I-94 Service Drive, west of the Belleville Road I-94 Exit. Phone number to the fairgrounds is 734-697-7002. CRATING: Outdoor crating only. Please enter and exit through the north end of the Merchants Building where racing is held. Pools will be located on the east side of the building. MEASURING: Measuring will take place between 7:45 am and 8:00 am on Saturday. There will not be a captains meeting. RACING: Racing will begin at 8:00 am on both Saturday and Sunday, starting and ending with Singles and Pairs with Standard and Variety team in the middle. Racing has been divided into 4 Standard and 1 Variety divisions according to the submitted team times. Each division has been assigned a break-out time one second faster than the top seed time in that division. RACING FORMAT: All racing 3/5 Standard Divisions 1-4: DRR with one point for a win, zero for a loss. Variety Division 1: SRR with DE, one point for a win, zero for a loss. Ties will be broken based on head to head racing, then best time head to head, and then best time overall. WARM-UPS: There will be a two minute warm-up but may be shortened if racing runs behind schedule. If your team is ready to race before the warm up ends, please let your judge know.
